LGBTQA Specialization

I specialize in working with LGBTQA people. I have spent the majority of my career working with and for the LGBTQA community. I've held leadership positions in LGBTQA mental health clinics, trained new generations of LGBTQA clinicians, served as LGBTQA consultant at university counseling centers, and have conducted extensive psychological research on issues impacting LGBTQA people.

Individual Therapy

Life can be challenging. People come to individual therapy for a variety of reasons. They may feel lost in their life, are coping with the aftermath of abuse and neglect, are unhappy with work, are feeling depressed, feeling sexually out of control, are having issues in their relationship or cannot seem to have a relationship, or maybe they are questioning their gender identity. I work with my patients to identify what is causing their distress and then we work together to create meaningful change. I operate from a relational perspective where I strive to create a safe space for patients to explore what is troubling them. Together, we unravel difficult patterns, remove barriers, work towards acceptance and self compassion, and move towards growth, creating new healthier ways of being.

Couples Therapy

Close relationships can be complicated. Infidelity, sex, differing values, navigating polyamory and open relationships, starting a family, are often the catalysts that bring couples into treatment. Both our personal patterns and our relational patterns can interfere with our relationship satisfaction. This may result in resentment and disappointment and overall dissatisfaction with our lives. I facilitate my patients to identify patterns in their relationship, improve their ways of communication, and find ways to experience a more fulfilling relationship. I am particularly interested in facilitating my patients to preserve their sense of self, “I”, while developing a “We".

In some cases, couples might find themselves at a crossroads in deciding what they would like to do with their relationship. Making a decision about continuing or ending a relationship can also be challenging. Couples therapy can also help with making a decision about your relationship.
